Present perfect and past simple (I went and I have gone)
In English Grammar, present perfect is the present tense in a sentence. It always tells something about when.
When did Penny lose her book? Penny lost her book yesterday.
· “I went to the circus.” “I have gone to the circus.”
Now is the present. Past simple only tells us something that has happened in the past. For example,
· “Penny does not have her book now.” “Penny lost her book yesterday.”
When using English Grammar do not use present perfect when no connection to the past is seen or heard. For example, something that has happened long ago:
· The Americans invented basketball. (You will not use the word have after Americans in this sentence.)
